Volunteer Day - May 8

Huntington Valley Little League Honors Joe Chavez
"Thank a Volunteer Day" -  Saturday, May 8, 2021

It has been said that one of the greatest gifts you can give, is the gift of your time. Anyone who has been around HVLL knows how very fortunate we are to have many wonderful volunteers who embody that sentiment. So on this day -- in addition to those amazing helpers -- we will celebrate one extra special gift to our community who was taken from us too soon: Joe Chavez.

For those of you who didn’t have the great fortune of knowing Joe, he was a staple in and around Huntington Beach. When it comes to our baseball family, Joe was definitely an MVP.  As a D62 umpire, he spent countless hours on these fields, not to mention all the time performing field maintenance to keep them at the top of their game. We are not only grateful for the time he donated, but also the enthusiasm he showed for the kids, and his overall love and appreciation of the amazing game of baseball.

A couple years ago, we rededicated the Majors field as “Volunteer Field” to celebrate Joe's memory and the contributions of the many volunteers who like him, give their time to make our community great.

To commemorate this exciting day, volunteer introductions and the National Anthem will take place before each Majors' and Minor A game (9 a.m. and 12 p.m.). In addition, there will be a host of talented umpires from around the area on hand to join in the fun.

Please come out early and take a few extra minutes to thank someone special today for their efforts! In honor of Joe and all of our volunteers...let's PLAY BALL!
