COVID-19 League Update #5

Hello HVLL Families,

I wanted to provide another update for all of you, but there is really no update.

I think the city would like to allow us to open our fields, but since the city lost its lawsuit against the state we are bound by the state and county requirements, regardless of how ridiculous they are. My update from the city yesterday was that all city fields remain closed until further notice.

I know this is frustrating. I know how angry I am over what appears to be a world upside down. We have restaurants, businesses, parks, and barbershops opening up. It’s evidently okay to have thousands of people together protesting on the streets with no social distancing or COVID protocols. The images on TV the last week of the rioting, looting and burning of business with what seems like very little being done to stop it is disturbing. And then having it against the rules to go down to our park and have our kids get together and play baseball doesn’t seem right. I’m sorry. I shouldn’t be sharing that. I just want our kids to have some degree of normalcy in their lives and playing some baseball seems like such a simple request.

You may have seen this article, which is positive movement. When I first saw it I sent e-mails to our county supervisors in support of them opening up youth sports.

I have seen many summer youth sport programs cancelling their programs. Your board at HVLL has not yet given up. If we can get approval soon, we can still have our kids play some baseball this summer. Your board has approved additional safety protocols and sanitizing supplies have arrived.

I hope to update you all again soon. Until then, all City of Huntington Beach fields/facilities are shut down and as such our fields must remain closed.

I hope you and your family remain safe and healthy.

Tim Stone
