COVID-19 League Update #3

Hello HVLL Families,

I wanted to provide another update for all of you. There continues to be many unknowns, but I’d like to share with you what your Board is currently planning.

First the bad news. As many of you may have seen, on Thursday Little League International cancelled the All Star Regional and World Series for the first time in its approximate 75 year history. While this really affects only a small group of boys, it is a heartbreak that hits close to home. We have a very special group of 12 year olds that have been working their bottoms off for over 2 years in hopes of making this quest. As 9 year olds, they won District and Section All Star tournaments, which is as far as they could go. As 10 year olds, and then the following year as 11 year olds, they added State Championships to their legacy. Only 12 year olds can go further than the State Championship to the Regional and World Series and this was their year. Our hearts go out to these boys, to the coaches - Jerry Marchbank, Matt Olmstead, and Steve Bone - who dedicated so much, and to their families.

Second, as indicated in my last update, every Board Member is still committed to having a baseball season. And, that is not only true for our league. Every league in our district remains committed to having a baseball season.

Third, the Little League International guidance that recommended the “temporary suspension/delay of all league activities until no earlier than May 11” is still in effect and will expire on that date. However, each state and community is affected by the Corona Virus differently and thus we will also be following the guidance from the state of California and the City of Huntington Beach. As of yesterday, “all City of Huntington Beach fields/facilities are shut down through the end of May.”

Therefore, our current target date for the resumption of our baseball season is June 1st. In the interim, we will do everything we can to ensure that once it is safe to play, we are ready to play. Our goal will be to play as much baseball as we can throughout the summer. As part of this process, and to help us with planning, over the next 10 days, the Board will be reaching out to each team to determine the availability of players, managers, and coaches through the summer. I will update everyone again after we have completed this process and/or when updated information is available from the city and state.Until then, I hope you and your family remain safe and healthy.

Blessings,
Tim Stone
