With the exception of those in the Lower Tee-Ball division, each team is responsible for providing umpires, for a number of games during the season.
The following divisions must provide both a home plate and base umpire for each game:
- Majors teams are assigned to games in Minors A & B
- Minor A teams are assigned to games in Majors and Minor B
- Minor B teams are assigned to games in Majors and Minor A
- Minor C teams are assigned to games in Minor B
Assignments for Farm and Upper Tee-Ball teams:
These teams are assigned to games in Minor C. For the most part, Junior Umpires will sign up to cover the home plate and base umpire responsibilities. However, you must provide an Adult Umpire to be present on the field (as part of a 3-person umpire crew) for all games in which two Junior Umpires are assigned to a game. The Adult Umpire could also serve as the lone base umpire or perhaps the home plate umpire in the event of missing youth umpires.
Adult Umpires must be prepared to execute the following actions and activities:
- Participate in pre-game meeting with managers and umpires and contribute if needed. Make sure that your name is in the official scorebook.
- Be on the field serving as part of the 3-person umpire crew and present at all discussions managers have with a youth umpire. If a manager has a question about a call made by a junior umpire, the manager must ensure that the adult umpire is present before the manager approaches a youth umpire. Managers must still direct their questions to the umpire that made the call.
- Oversee conduct of all players, managers, coaches, umpires, and deal with unruly spectators.
- Have the authority to disqualify or eject any player, coach, or manager.
Junior Umpires are eligible to serve as umpires in Minor C, and MAY BE ELIGIBLE for games in Minor B and above with prior approval from the Umpire-in-Charge.
Adult Game Coordinators must be present for all games (in Minor B and above) in which two Junior Umpires are assigned to a game (such as when hired by a manager). It is the assigned manager’s responsibility to provide an Adult Game Coordinator or the game cannot be played. The Game Coordinator must be an adult other than the participating Manger or coaches, and who is prepared to execute the following actions and activities:
- Participate in pre-game meeting with managers and umpires and contribute if needed. Make sure that your name is in the official scorebook.
- Remain present at the game at all times, (including between half‐innings) and watching intently from a position in close proximity to see all actions on the field.
- Be present on the field if a manager has a question about a call made by a junior umpire. Managers must ensure that the Adult Game Coordinator is present before the manager approaches a youth umpire. Managers must still direct their questions to the umpire that made the call.
- Oversee conduct of all players, managers, coaches, umpires, and deal with unruly spectators.
- Have the authority to disqualify or eject any player, coach, or manager.
